Beautiful place, but we only did takeout because it was New Year's Eve. They also were doing a prix fixe party, so we had to pick it up early. I got some skewers which were fantastic, and had some of the vegan pho along with my wifes family, all of whom are vegetarian of some sort. Everything was very flavorful and tasty, especially the fried rice. Finally, I have to give an extra shout out to service- we had 4 big bags and the host helped me carry the bags to my car across the street, wow!
So... I'm Viet-Viet and I know my Viet food. Took a two-week vacay to Canada with my Viet fam, and let me tell you, we were ALL missing home comfort food. I hit up Yelp, and what did I find? Anh & Chi. Michelin-starred Viet food? I thought it was a prank. But, my people, it was worth the TWO HOUR wait. And yes, the Michelin star? Totally earned it. (Drool, Drool) The Ca Canh Chua and Ca Kho? Straight-up home vibes--but bougier. Like, I'm talking upgraded & elevated home cooking that made me feel fancy for once. The food was so good I almost forgot I was thousands of miles from home. Only downside? It's literally in Canada. And I had to lie to my 85-year-old Viet mama about the price--she would've thrown her chopsticks at me (and the server) if she found out the Canh Chua was $25. But on the real, 10/10, full Viet approval. Just pray you don't have to explain the prices to your family.
Beautiful restaurant in a lovely part of Vancouver. We waited for about 20 minutes on a Friday night for a party of 3 which was very pleasantly surprising! The outdoor seating is very warm so no issues with chilliness or rain, and our server was very attentive and friendly. The vermicelli was so fresh and steak was super tender. Got a ton of veggies in the curry as well. Super balanced meal and we had too much rice, so take home rice. Yay! Will definitely want to come back when I visit in the future.
Anh and Chi often has a long lineup for good reason - the food is incredible, the service is great, and the ambiance is excellent for all sorts of different occasions. I went to the restaurant with a group of former and current coworkers, who are also really good friends. I don't recall what everyone else ordered, but I got the Signature Vermicelli Bowl, which was excellent. It consisted of grilled chicken to perfection, along with grilled whole prawn, spring roll, and the typical vermicelli stuff - lettuce, cabbage, noodles, and pickled veggies.
Michelin star restaurant! Had to visit a Vietnamese restaurant while in Vancouver! Wait was 20-30 minutes during dinner time. It's quite busy due to being so popular. You can do an online reservation with a $10 donation to a charity; otherwise, you'll have to wait. Limited menu. Some options for vegetarians - although, the meat options looked and smelled like fire. Veggie pho - used veggie broth. Plenty of veggies. No mock meats. Bun rieu - looked and smelled like the way my mama makes it. Would highly recommend this.
Anh and Chi has a hip vibe with a modern take on Vietnamese food. Our waiter was very thorough in explaining each dish, including what flavor profiles we may expect from the dish to help us decide. Chicken wings - good Soft shell crab - good, pairs well with the salad Bun rieu - I personally do not like this dish in general so I can't judge but my mom really liked it Special - clams in coconut curry, broth was so good, coconuty and seafood Bun Hoi platter - got to try a variety of meat, but I think the cha gio (spring roll) was the best thing on it. Fish sauce was really good, we asked for more to take home with leftovers.
We waited about 45 minutes for six people on a Saturday night. Since I went with a group of people, I got to try a lot of different dishes. Some of the dishes have minimal portions, so it's a bit hard to share. The DIY street platter is good to share with about 3-4 people since there's a variety of options to put into as a rice roll. I like the spring roll there because it's crunchy and has a smooth texture. I do like that they give some peanut crumbs too. The fried rice has a great portion to share and the flavor is good too, but it's not a special dish. You can find other places for fried rice, but this is pretty filling. The chicken wing is good but it lacks the crunchiness. It's good as an appetizer though. The trio meat has a big portion and it's pretty good because it's meat. The best meal is the sablefish. It's very tender and the sauce blends with the fish well. However, they mention family size but the sablefish isn't family size. It's good for 1-2 people. Overall, the interior is great and the place has a good vibe for chatting. The food is delicious although I have some concerns about the portion of the family style menu.
